The Crimean Peninsula.

The Autonomous Republic of Crimea has a population of about 3,500,000 people who live on 10,000 square miles. The peninsula is linked to the mainland by the Perekop Isthmus and is surrounded by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It’s capital is Simferopol and other major cities include Feodosia, Kerch, Sevastopol, Yalta and Yevpatoria. The Crimean coastline is one of the longest and untouched ones in Europe with a lot of rear flora and fauna. Along the northeast coast is a series of shallow lagoons known collectively as the Sivash or Putrid Sea. This sea is linked to the Sea of Azov by the Arabatskaya Strelka. At the south, is the Yaila Ridge with extensive meadows and forest running almost 100 miles from the west coast eastward. This Alpine-Himalayan belt of folded mountains consist three distinct parallel ridges: The Southern, The Internal and The External. The tallest peak, The Roman Kosh rises 5,034 feet above the sea level. Here the temperature is cool and humid. There is an international known observatory, The Crimean Astrophysical Observatory on Mt. Koshka. On the south side of this Crimean Ridge is the "Russian Riviera" with its subtropical climate and palm trees. At this area there are several vineyards, fruits orchards and several famous resorts and towns. Crimea’s rivers are divided into three groups: rivers of the north-eastern Crimea Mountain slopes; rivers of the northern slopes and rivers of the southern coast. The longest river in Crimea is the Salghir. The major industry for Crimea is fishing. Major fish species caught in the Black Sea are herring, tuna, shrimp, scallop, horse mackerel and khamsa. Crimean's mine clay, lime, salt, flux, gravel, limestone and marl.  At this fabulous peninsula at the Black Sea one can enjoy the nice beach and disco life as well. For a long time all of this was only possible for the high standard Russians because not everybody was allowed to enter Crimea and special Sevastopol. From April until October it's pleasant busy at the whole Crimean peninsula.

 THE RIVIERA

Beautiful bays and whimsical rocks, long golden beaches with sand dunes and warm clear sea create the attractive force of the famous Crimea and Southern Black sea Riviera Black Seacoast. This area has over the last 100 years, and continues to be developed into summer resorts and holiday villages. The sandy sea bottoms gently slope, making bathing and swimming safe for even the youngest holidaymakers. Along the perfect coast lines you can be sure that you will find something to cater for everyone's tastes and preferences. By night, the resorts and specially Sevastopol, are alive with restaurants, bars, clubs, and all night cafes, the open market town bustle with stalls where you can buy anything from antiques, to full of tradition dressage. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in May and September and more than 300 hours in June, July and August, and with an average temperature of 28 degrees, it is easy to understand why this destination has become so popular. If you are not a lover of the beach, by day Sevastopol along the coast line plays host to many museums, monasteries, churches and quaint village Balaklava, there you can sit back and digest the Crimean culture and view this beautiful place from another angle. For the more adventurous type, Sevastopol-Apartments organize excursions run everyday in the summer where you may take a safari, hike over the stunning terrain, horse ride, mud bathes, visiting palaces, museums or historical places, or hire a car yourself and experience this area with its contrasting scenery at your own pace.

Sevastopol

Sevastopol, is situated at the Crimean peninsula, with a population of about 500.000 inhabitants in winter and about 650.000 in summer and is like Rome, Paris or Istanbul, build on seven hills. It is next to Moscow and St. Petersburg one of the most famous places in the former USSR. Already for a long, long time is Sevastopol one of the most important harbour cities in the whole of the former SSSR. The many monuments remember everyone about her rich history. Crimea has one of the most fantastic coast areas in Europe. At this beautiful peninsula exist a nice beach-, dancing-, nightclub life that was only there for the high placed Russians who could get a visa for this place. From starting May until October, there is a lot of summer activities. In the 5th century BC ancient Greek started to build at Hersones where Sevastopol is situated now. In 988 Sevastopol was concurred by Prince Volodymyr Svyatoslavovych, who did introduce the Orthodox church. At May 1783 the first ships of the Black Sea fleet did enter her Buchta. Today you still find the ships of this enormous fleet in the Akhtialsky harbor. Even in Soviet times, Sevastopol was one of the most important harbor cities of the USSR. Many monuments still remember everyone about this fact. In this time, everybody from outside, even our family, from for example Moscow or St, Petersburg needed a visa to get in or out of Sevastopol. This was because there where many secrets to see in town. The city did not only see rising, but during the Russian– Turkish war from 1854 – 1855 (ended next year 150 years ago) and WO II from 1941 – 1944 it was completely destroyed. From Sevastopol you may reach the whole peninsula very easy for a lot of excursions. From the year 2004 on it is even the main tourist city of Russia. Balaclava what is a part of Great Sevastopol area was in the year 2005, 2500 years old! At the bottom of this page, we have put two webcam buttons in, so you can see how the whether is at the moment, because the international forecast is good for Simferopol but in Sevastopol it is much better. In the evening, you even can see us sometimes. Sevastopol is build, like all important cities (Rome, Paris, San Francisco, etc, etc) at seven hills and is still the home harbour of "The Black Sea Fleet".

Yalta situated at the "Russian Rivera" at the Crimean peninsula is a historical place. In Yalta you can find "The Livadia". This was the Summer Palace of the last Tsar. In 1945 this place is used by Roosevelt, Stalin en Churchill to sign the treaty of Yalta.
